I don't think we should have violations at all. Yahoo is an American based company and in America, we supposedly have the right to free speech. We should not be censored. Since everyone has a different opinion about what is offensive, what you think is offensive may be fine to others and given this, even the most decent guy is going to post something you don't like at some point. Should he be punished for this? It's not his fault that you were offended. If you don't like what he wrote, don't read it. And if you find someone who is regularly posting highly offensive material, block him but don't violate my right to free speech just because one person is easily offended.
Then you have to consider that vioations don't really stop the truly vulgar from posting. There is a poster, and I think we all know who he is, who keeps posting the same disgusting questions over and over. He must have been reported for this but yet you keep seeing the questions posted. If reporting him for abuse isn't stopping him from posting, then what's the point?
I've never reported anyone for abuse because I believe in free speech. If Yahoo doesn't like what you wrote, it's up to them to handle it, not me. But, I've accidentally clicked the wrong place before so I could see accidentally reporting someone at some point. They should not be punished for this, that's for sure, but should I? It was an accident. So I propose this: People should only be punished for falsely reporting valid questions if they show a history of it. I don't have the exact numbers worked out yet but, you have to make so many false reports in such and such time before you get punished. On the other hand, your question should not be removed for one report. For a question to be considered for removal, it should have to be reported a certain number of times, a certain percentage of the number of people who have viewed the question. If one person is offended by your question, the question is probably fine and that person should just learn to deal with it. If 1,000 people are offended by your question, it's probably offensive and should be removed. The number 1,000 is made up arbitrarily for the sake of the argument. The real number should vary according to the average number of users reading a question. I would say you should probably have to have at least 10% of the readers report your question before Yahoo should even consider removing it that is, if we're going to continue with viloations. I still say get rid of them and let people speak their minds. It's the principle this country was founded on.

sure, it truly is a 2-way highway. I had a answer bumped off for asserting the terrorists apologists do it out of sense of multiculturalism, asserting that we could desire to constantly no longer choose human beings's strikes. i'm nevertheless uncertain the way it incredibly is a contravention. yet i've got basically pronounced a Q or A consistent with probability 4 or 5 situations, enthusiastic approximately sparkling violations. two times for posting a social secure practices variety, and the different situations for purposefully misrepresenting yet another member's Q&A's. They used somebody else's avatar, replaced their person call slightly and published a team of crap which misrepresented the member. element is everyone who comments devoid of legimate motives is an ***. each each now and then there are stable motives to record. however the equipment is being abused by ability of a few human beings and that i'm constructive it truly is on the two components.

Yes. I've had the experience where someone answered a very important legal question with totally made up information. There are a lot of people on "Yahoo Answers" who pretend they know the answer to a question, but really they are only fake experts. Be careful. Do not trust every answer you get.

Yea I do. Funny thing. Each time I get a violation notice I protest it because all but one was just somebody trying to hurt me. I always get an e-mail that the entire situation will be investigated... Waiting... and waiting... Hm? No answers. :)... No points back yet either. But I'm still here for the moment at least.

Absolutely. But Yahoo management is a bunch of cheapskates. They'd rather just delete the questions than have somebody read them.
They could at least require multiple flags, though. That's not at all expensive.

Wouldn't that be a wonderful world?
I think when a violation notice is issued, the person reporting the 'violation' should be noted in the notice.
