How can I become an expert in playing the guitar?

There are no shortcuts.

If you truly want to MASTER the guitar, take classical (method) lessons from a QUALIFIED professional - preferably somebody with a degree in Music Education. All of the best guitarists in the world have had at least some classical method training.

I play the piano, and I depend on my ears alot when learning new songs even though I can read music. Many artists improvise on songs, and the only way to learn is to listen to what they play. I found a very handy little machine a few years ago that helps me a lot. It plays cds, and you can slow them down without changing the pitch of the music. You don't say if your a beginner or more advanced. All's I can really say is listen and watch other guitarists, and lessons would help a lot, too. And it does take a lot of patience and most of all practice!

Practice, You play so hard every day that your fingers start to bleed, you do that for a year and then when you know that you are committed, Then you start learning chords and stuff...
