I don't really remember, but it was something about particles traveling across the dimensions. String theory.

This is the most intelligent question ever posed in astronomy and science.
The real answer is that the substance of space was structured by our Creator.
Not all scientist know what it does. But some do know. However what it is exactly,and how it was constructed is a fact that the whole realm of science(especially the Big Bang theory of singularity)= does not have an answer.

There are quite many theories. None are confirmed and there are no evidence. The most supported is the big bang theory. Many people find it weird because out of noting comes something. So I have no definite answer but I can recommend the big bang theory.
