Ok I am 14 weeks pregnant. At 12 weeks doctors advised me to undergo a scan to check if the baby has Down's Syndrome. (cautionary procedure since I am 30 yrs). The results were negative. They want to repeat the test in a month's time when I will be in week 16. What are the chances that a baby can develop Downs over the first and second trimesters? And at what stage can a mom-to-be stop worrying about a baby developing this particular syndrome? Pls help if you can with any info you have if you have heard/ read about this or been thru something similar. Not looking for medical advice but just any info pregnant moms may have. Thanks.

Ok so if its present at conception, then at what stage will it be detected? The scan at 12 weeks showed nothing, does that mean the scan at 16 weeks will most likely also be clear? What are my chances basically. I too dont have a choice about the baby's health and life, no matter what, its mine and I will keep it. But the worry for a healthy baby is nagging me. :(

Women over 30 do have a higher risk of having a child with Downs that younger women do.

The test is just a scan of of amnio fluid, but your baby can't develop it over four weeks. Down's is simply when your baby gets a 47th chromosome instead of having the regular 46. So if your baby had Down's s/he has it now and cannot develop it. There is not extra chromosome floating around your uterus waiting to attach.

However, since you are concerned about this, I suggest you do a little research on Down's Syndrome. Learn about what it is, how it affects people, etc. Many times when people think Down's Syndrome they have horriffic thoughts that don't even come close to being true. After coming into contact with many people with the chromosome defect, I can tell you they are wonderful people.

Also, by doing research you can determine if this is a responsibility you are ready to have. Many Down's Syndrome people are not able to live alone or without their parents. They offer this test for a reason. They want you to know what is in store for you before oyu give birth. If you know you cannot deal then you need to make the determine what you will do if the test comes back positive.

Now, after a first test came up negative, I really don't think you should be worrying as much as you are. You are give birth to a child plain and simple. S/he will be the light of your life either way.

They don't "develop" it, it's present at conception. They just want to look again, remeasure the nuchal fold. During the first trimester scan they should have also done a simple blood test by prickign your finger that would have given you numbers as results. The chances of Down's do not go up until age 35, even some are pushign it back to 40 now.

My mother had me at 35 years old and it was suggested that she get that test done. But after one of her friends getting it done and finding out her baby had down-syndrome, my mother desided not to g through with the test. When my mothers friend had the baby turned out the test was wrong her baby was completly heathy and didnt have down-syndrome. Although it's suggested because of your age I wouldnt get the test done again, just because something can even go wrong when there doing the test. With the stories my mom shared with me I desided not to get the test done at all I will wait for the baby to be here. Just because of all the stories my mom shared with me.

I opted not to have that test done I was in my early 30's. I looked at it as "it's my baby no matter what". It's not going to change anything if he/she has downs. So, I have 2 healthy children and I wasn't in a panic during my pregnancy.. Good luck and be well.

some human beings say "god" solutions prayers in 3 solutions... specific, No, and Wait. So there are 3 possiblities: a million. Your prayer is spoke back day after immediately. 2.You prayer is spoke back the subsequent week. 3. you're nonetheless waiting for the respond. So truly if god truly did no longer anwer our questions, it would desire to nonetheless slot in wait. ALL spoke back prayers are no longer something greater desirable than organic twist of fate.

baby doesn't develop downs while in the womb it is present at conception when either the egg or sperm has an extra chromosome.
