Air fresheners are too "artificial" and effect my alergies. Baking soda does not seem to work ( I'v placed it on sucers in every room) The odors are just "stale" room odors, not a particular, or cooking odor.

Make a spray with one cup White Vinegar to one cup warm water and add one teaspoon Baking soda

Spray undiluted white vinegar in the air. The vinegar smell evaporates very quickly taking odors with it.

Place a bowl of vinegar on the counter and let it sit for a few hours

Put essential oils in a light bulb ring. You could also add them to a vaporizer.

One of my favorite tips is to put a drop of a very inexpensive "perfume" on a light bulb in each room. I found a jasmine-scented body spray for 50 cents, and it's lasted me for quite awhile

Scented rocks make a great air freshener. Mix 1/2 cup salt and 1/2 cup flour in a bowl. Add 1/4 teaspoon of a favorite essential oil and 2/3 cup boiling water and a few drops of a food coloring to create a desired shade. Blend all ingredients, form into balls, and allow to dry.

For the bathroom, dampen a cotton swab with your favorite perfume or cologne and swab the inside of a toilet paper roll. Each time the toilet paper is rolled, a fresh scent will fill the room.

Another way to purify the air is to dampen a cotton ball with pure vanilla extract, place in a dish and set in odorous area of the house. A dish with three cotton balls is great for the living room. A room in which heavy smoking occurs might require another dish.

Air Freshener

In a small spray bottle, add the following:

4 ounces of purified water

30 drops of cinnamon oil

20 drops of clove oil

20 drops of sweet orange oil

10 drops of cedarwood oil

Good Luck !

Although not unscented, vinegar works wonders for getting rid of smells. Just place small bowls filled with vinegar throughout the house, and your odors will be gone!

Personally I would try to clean everything in the room, all surfaces including walls, ceiling and table legs , fresh coat of paint if possible. you don't have to use anything harsh but sometimes just the build up of dust on furniture or walls can smell after years of sitting, we forget to dust the areas that aren't right on top. A steam cleaner would be great for the upholstered sufaces.
I am not a fan of hiding smells...they usually come from something...and you don't have to be a bad housekeeper for it to happen, if you have lived somewhere for a very long time and don't change things dust and grime build up on the oddest places

Make a spray of white vinegar and water, at a mix of 1/4 cup vinegar to 3/4 cup water.. and use as roomspray.
If you like, you can add quality essential oils of choice, such as lemongrass (great for removing airborne bacteria and smells, improves respiration) or lavender, orange is uplifting and refreshing especially if mixed with grapefruit, eucalyptus is always a great one.. a visit to a health shop will show you what each oil does and mixes that work well together.. or email me :-)

Best thing to do would be to boil plain white vinegar in a pan for about 10 minutes. This will remove any unwanted smells and I promise will not stink your house up. Also, it a great degreaser and a great shiner, like for your floors and windows.

Citris. Slice a lemon or place a saucer of lemon juice in the room. Wood chips - from the pet store might work as well. Ozone and air purfiers if you are looking for a true long term fix. I see some manufacturers from the West online. Can you believe how vegan/natural AZ is - like the hub of o-natural.
