The selectors have announced a list of probables that have the seniors like Sachin, Ganguly & Dravid not in the list. They have opted out of the tournament to give chance to the youngsters to be chosen and perform for India. No doubt the seniors had the best intrest of India in mind when the did make the choise. They are all approaching 35 soon and Ganguly is already 35. Kumble 37 laxman approaching 33 are all on thier final lap of their illustrious career. Some like Sachin can never ever ever be replaced and is my personal favourite after Mohammed Azharuddin and Kapil.
Also the team to Africa for tour of Kenya and Zimbabwe have been chosen with Kaif as the captain of the team it is intresting to note that Kaif has also been chosen in the 20 20 squad where the present Indian captian is not there. Is this a sign of what the selectors are thinking?
What is your opinion on why the seniors have opted out and the thinking on the selection on Kaif as the captain of the team to Africa?

The fact that the seniors were selected in the last world cup for ODI's and their miserable performance must not have been lost by the selectors also in the shorterend version of the game Ganguly's fielding, running between the wickets, Dravids slow game and Sachin's starting problems and fielding may have stood out like a sore thumb.

There has been comments that Kaif was a lower order batsman but the truth is that the seniors have hogged the limelight in batting conditions and made most of the juniors play when there is too little time to settle in. Look at Rohit Sharma he got to play just one match with little time to settle in he scored around 9-10 runs only when he came to bat in the 46th or 47th over.

i think seniors are now become to much senior...and they have not much cricket left so i think that BCCI should try new talents to form a perfect and un beatable team... and if Kaif is made the captain so there is no problem...he must be given a chance to prove his captaincy skills....

I think it is a good decision by the seniors like Sachin,Dravid,Ganguly to opt out of the 20-20 world cup. All of them are in the twilight of their carrers. They have given selecctors a chance to introduce and experiment on the junior players.Neither Sachin nor Dravid nor Ganguly nor Kumble nor Laxman will play in the 2007 world cup.
I think that selectors have shown faith in Mohammad Kaif by giving him the captaincy as well as including him in the 20-20 probables. I am really excited about the upcoming 20-20 world cup to be held in South Africa this September. Will the selectors include Kaif in the team for 20-20 world cup? We will see .....

I don't think that the seniors have been dropped from the team as the selectors have lost faith in them. The seniors themselves should hane decided to give way for the younsters and it is great for team india.Regarding kaif, he might be good captain but he is not good enough to find a place in the team.He is a great fielder, good team player BUT NOT A MATCH WINNER. He is a lower order batsman who will mostly have to bat in the slog overs but he lack the ability to hit boundries and clearing the fence. So, it is a backward step, including kaif in the side.Leaving the kaif matter, the rest of the selection are fair enough.

Its a good thing that Dravid,Sachin and Ganguly opted out of 20-20 tournment giving way for youngsters.20-20 cricket requires young and energetic players and the trio doesnt fall in that category. Also its time the one of the trio gives is way in ODI cricket to players like Robin uthappa,Kaif,Raina,Rohit sharma or Manoj Tiwary..Sachin has nothing else to prove in ODI's except for the fact that he could become the first player to play 400 ODI's.If he is sure he can play 2011 worldcup, then he has to play selectively and take care of his fitness.Dravid can ideally quit ODI's and concentrate on test cricket alone so that Yuvraj or Dhoni can ideally be tested as ODI captains. Also Sourab who is enjoying playing ODI's,should think about is test career so that he can make way for Yuvraj or the younger crop.

It is a good sign for the future build up a strong Indian Team. Any way even with the seniors India may not be able to win the Twenty/20 Cup. Then why not try out the youngsters?

Twenty twenty is the game for those in the twenties. Anyway what will cricket being played round the clock , the seniors always have other games to prove themselves. They have made a mark for themselves in the game and have proved their mettle in different situations. Unfortunately, we expect a lot from them and we make an issue even if they opt out or remain in the team!!!
We gun for Sachin but did you realise that how many of us would have left our homes at the age of 16 and faced the fiery bowling of the likes of Imran and Akram at their best? He has also lost a lot of his teenage life and has sacrificed a lot for cricket . So let us give him a break and let him decide when he wants to play his swansong. Same to Dada and Dravid. They have given the best for their country.

Its is good for the future of Indian cricket that the famous trio opted out to offer the new generation an opportunity to showcase their talents on the internatioanl stage. Although it would have been nice to see Sachin, Dada and Dravid once again lay into the worlds best bowlers in this shorterned version of the game.
I believe though India still stand a fair to good chance of winning this world cup. Unlike other teams India has put forth before in major tournaments, this one in my opinion is suited for the new style of power cricket as fielding wise it is extremeley strong which will be a huge factor in this world cup and my belief is that India should play just the 4 specialist bowlers with Pathan being one of them, hopefully hes is back bowling well. Below is the team i would pick from the probables with Yuvi as captian and Dhoni as vice captain and if all players were 100% fit.
Sehwag - risky player but in this form of the game if he clicks will be a huge asset
Utthapa - same as Sehwag but a slightly better temperament
Yuvraj - Undoubtedly one of the cleanest strikers of the ball but struggles outside the offstump
Dhoni - If Mahi clicks thers guna be fireworks
Raina - Awesome fielder and talented batsmen hopefully this will help his learning curve
Kaif - Very talented fielder and a fighter
Karthik - Determined and a future Indian captain in the making as well as a good fielder
Pathan - We need him on form because he adds depth and balance to the side also provides early wickets
Chawla - Has bag fulls of talent and one awesome googly
Zaheer - Bowling well since his return and his yorkers and experience will help
Munaf/Sreesanth - Either accuracy from munaf or passion from sreesanth?
This is a good side hopefully you agree. Some may say theres only four bolwers but Sehwag and Yuvraj have been very useful and batsmen underestimating them in this form of them game will be to our benefit.
Still the Aussies are going to be the team to beat and i would watch out for Pakistan as well any team with Afridi, Asif and Shoaib is going to be dangerous! As for the other teams England will either be as useless as they are in ODI's or brilliant due to the amount of practise and experience they have in this form, Sri Lanka will go far, South Africa at home will either be disaster like 03 or plain brilliance like in the chase against the Aussies, New Zealand and the Windies are the dark horses, with the Windies struggling in the longer forms of the game but at their best in the shorter version and will be experienced from the Stanford 20/20. All in all im hoping for an open world cup, not an Aussie rampage, and an INDIAN WIN!!! COME ON INDIA!!

have the seniors actually opted out to give a chance to youngester? If so, why don't they show the same generosity and concern while the team is selected for one day internationals and test matches?
