The easiest way is to take the collection to several coin dealers. They know how to grade the coins and where to locate the mint marks if any. See what each has to say and go from there. If you know where the mint marks are you could send me a list and I can let you know if anything is rare and give a ballpark figure on value. On large collections it is impossible too and most of the time a waist of time, to scan them and send a scan. If I find you have a valuable coin then you could send a scan or photo of it. The easiest way is coin dealers or a coin club in your area, members are always glad to help others.

You can either go to a local coin dealer listed in your phone book or you can go to the library and look at the books at Dewey # 737.4

You could take it to several coin collectors for appraisals. But don't sell it to any of them, wait for the Roadshow to come to town. LOL

go to google and type in a search for coins, you will find so many sites it may be time consuming as well but it is also addicting. do you know if they are foriegn or american?
