The date and time on an e-mail is goverened by the system clock of the sender. So if their system clock is way out, then you receive the mail from what ever time their PC says.
I think spamers alter their system clocks as spam appears in date order and their junk will either be at the top of the bottom of your mail.

It could be for a variety of reasons. The email host server where the email was sent from could be experiencing problems or the computer that the email is being sent from could have the incorrect time.
For example, a friend of mine sent me an email the other day to my Yahoo account. It was dated as 3 weeks old. She checked her computer clock and found that it was incorrect. She reset it and all returned to normal.

The cause of this is that the computer were not Y2K ready. When the year 2000 came around the computer bios was not able to accept the change for 2000. So the users rolled back the dates so their computers would not crash

I just plugged in a fax machine that has been in storage for 15 years. It spit out a fax from June, 1992. Thought that was rather wierd. We did not even plug it into a phone line, just the wall.

Spammers routinely change the dates on their servers to confuse the people they are spamming. If you continue to read bulk mail, you will get more spam. Just check to see if you know who it's from, but don't read it. If you don't know who it's from, DON'T OPEN IT!
