I think we do, but I leave the politics out of it.
Adding politics into it, Blair could have possibly damaged our relationship (with you guys) by following that unelected nutjob into his illegal war.

I lived in the US for some years and there is a naturally mutual respect among ordinary people I think; although the American xenophobia among those who've never travelled outside their country is starting to find its way into British society with less good reason possibly. Bush has given America a bad name, which is a major reason for this.

Currently it's a combination of hype and a "marriage of convenience" for W and the Liar. Now that they're both out or on the way out (as, thank God, W can't be re-elected), we'll soon see things getting back to normal.
They do say "politics makes strange bedfellows"´--take that how you like, the mental pictures it generates in this case are **frightening**!! LOL

I think it has been a special relationship. I think many Americans are fascinated by your culture and feel drawn to it.
But I think that interference by the media, politicians, and differing ideologies has caused some degree of disconnect between our two great countries.

Personally, I've always thought of England as our "high class" cousin. A bit more uptight, but family just the same. We have common roots and I do believe that most Americans feel a far closer relationship to England than Canada or God-forbid-Mexico. Politics will always figure in there, but I'd rather have us united and seeing eye-to-eye than at each other's throats. That would just be sad.

if you view history, you will see that the first colonies were English. And after the American Revolution they were still English but were now Americans. Yes. We hold a special bond with our English friends, language, customs and we both believe in freedom for all.
