Yes. They weren't that great. Just token competition for Greyhound. The only places Trailways did well was Albany Georgia. Only because Greyhound didn't go there.

Yes I do remember them serving Texas and another bus company called TNMO for Texas New Mexico Oklahoma. I think the TNMO went bellyup (not sure) and pretty sure Continental Trailways was absorbed by Greydog before a Canadian firm bought them.

trailways buses were always cleaner but fewer had a/c and even fewer had a lavatory for short hops they were hard to beat but if cross country id reather hitchhike through hades. in the 70's greyhound bought them out, it is still a dog of a way to get around.

Yes. They were a major form of mass transportation on the east coast. Their biggest competitor was Greyhound and the trains.
