most people don't want their picture up for the world to see- unless they think they are all that & a bag of chips... :)~

I don't know for sure that they are more or less 'popular'. I would much rather use my real picture becuase I back everything I say and am not afraid of some schmo recognizing me on the street. BFD, like it would happen anyway. Besides, the pics are so small you can't see the ppl anyway.
The reason I don't have my real pic up is because I have no interest in opening a yahoo360 account. What a DRAG Yahoo ppl! Come on! Let us use our real pics w/o all this rig-a-ma-ram!!! I already have a MySpace acct., n' that's good enuff for me!

That's part of it, but the main reason is that Yahoo answers makes the real pictures come out too small, so you really can't make out facial features too well. It's not worth the trouble. On other websites where you can view pictures larger size, most of the people have real photos in their profile.

The anonimity . It's not that we have anything to hide necessarily, but I think for privacy & security reasons most people choose a cartoon avatar.

I think the avatars can be the way people see themselves. They might also be a way for people to express how they want to look. I don't know...it's a good question.

the only reason i dont is because i couldnt figure out how to put a picuture on it i was really confused so i just used my avatar since i already had one

most of the ppl do not want to show themselvez 2 the world n r scared of it...some may think if others saw them(ppl who r goofs)they may laugh
