Lol, if you think it is a dumb religion, you will not "give" it to your child. You will give the opinion that it is "dumb" to your child. The ONLY religion you can give to your child is the one you believe with all your heart (and even then it doesn't always happen- as your experience with your parents clearly shows). Study/ research the beliefs of as many religions as you can, read the bible so that you know what the Word of God says (and can judge which religion follows it most closely) AND PRAY that God will show you the truth.

Thats the weirdest question I've ever seen. Religion is a way of living, would you ask anyone to tell you how you shall live?!
If you think that your religion is dumb, you must change it to what you believe. Read more, ask people and get some experience about each religion and choose whatever your heart tells you.
And when your children grow old enough, let them search for the truth deep inside them and don't force them to follow your religion unless you can prove logically that they're wrong and that their choice lacks experience and precision.
Good luck raising your children.

The best religion is just decency and honesty, treat other people as you would wish to be treated. Allow your child to grow up with an open mind. To follow your good example! I wish the child well, it is not easy to lead a good life in to-days world. Sad, but all the troubles in this world seem to stem from religion. Yours is not an easy task. Good luck

Congrats on the child.

Sounds you don't believe what you belong to. So open up and find out what else is out there.

I was raised Lutheran, and growing up i discovered I am not so much of a sheep to follow that path. So, I am more Pagan then Christian.

I raised my daughter now 23, to check other religions and follow her own path. the big BUT here, is that my parents took her to church, and she does have beliefs.

It is very important to have some sort of belief system in place for children. Then as they get older they can decide if that is for them or something different.

You should allow your child to make the choice of dumb religions themselves..whenever they want. every person has the right to their own beleifs and faiths (or lack there of).

Don't force things on them. keep them open to several different things (everything) as they grow up, so they can choose what works for them.

religion means nothing to a baby. Wait until he is old enough to choose his own religion.

Raise your child to learn your beliefs (not necessarily religious - but moral beliefs, how to treat others, etc.). If you are not happy with your religion, then let your child make the religious decision when he gets older.

surround him with different beliefs, but don't force anything on him. put all of the options out there, so that when he's older, he can follow what he feels the most. Afterall, your religion should be what YOU believe, not what someone tells you to.

When it comes to children you must simply do what you believe is best. For example, if you truly believe in the christian (or any other) religion then it would make sense that you would pass that on to your children. However, if you are unsure then I would suggest that you simply teach them all you can about various beliefs (including atheist) and then let them make up their own mind.
