I hav an IBM laptop. the booting consumes a lot of time say 10-15 minutes. when i press the on/off button it stucks on to the page "IBM Thinkpad" "Press F1 and F12" etc for that much time. After that, its ok and fast. What could be be problem as there is no virus problem. please help. Can it be hard disk or some other internal problem? I have just changed the battery and upgraded it to extra memory.

The time it takes for a computer to boot cold can take some time depending on the boot order and BIOS settings. You can usually check this by pressing an Fkey such as F8 or F12 for example. You will see this come up on the first screen during boot that tells you what key to hit to open your boot order. If your computer has some hours on it you may have to update your BIOS to a newer version.

Check in your BIOS settings. It sounds like it is doing a complete RAM check every boot. Look for something like "Quick Boot" option and enable it. Pressing "Esc" during the RAM check will also work, but it is a pain to remember every time you want to reboot.
