Fellow Liberals - Have we become too civilized to understand the barbarian mindset?

I consider myself a Liberal - with socialist leanings

But I have had a thougt or two on the subject of "other" cultures that are not so nice

In all seriousness

Have we become to intelecualized too civil - too used to the rules of debate and so forth to grasp the barbarian

The ruthless violent men and women of absolute fanatics ?

yes in some ways we have.
its hard to imagine people being so base. its hard to imagine what is conservative here is radically liberal in other places.

even away from barbarianism, it hard to contemplate people disregarding logic, science, things that are considered to be true.
sometimes its baffling. its so hard to find a way to communicate with people like this or reach some sort of compromise so we can all exist in peace. (one of the steps to compromise and communication is logic and reasoning!)

I think its still good that we are unwilling- or possibly unable- to sink to the levels some people are at.

Liberals help unions in super apple state. Upstate super apple is drowning in taxation so has lost tens of millions of folk over the final 10 years as a results of fact companies shop fleeing the severe tax environment. The Governor, Andrew Cuomo desires to proper the deliver and decrease taxes Upstate (optimal interior the rustic) by a tax cap and then lowering state mandates. The unions oppose the cap. Why? as a results of fact they care approximately all the unemployed and adverse upstate? EDIT: SEE HOW THEY BLINDLY help THE DESTRUCTION OF UPSTATE super apple as long as THEY GET WHAT they choose? Hey fish boy, why don't you run a spell check? Boy, your an ultra liberal. Obviously, you don't know what it means to live in a country that you are opressed. No; I don't think being "civilized" means that we no longer "understand" less-cultivated minds.

If anything, I would submit that being "civilized" means one has a greater understanding.

Now, if you're talking about lowering ourselves to that kind of thought, speech or action, that's different.

There are situations where force must be met with force, but I've been nose-to-nose with genuine, homegrown American religious fanatics, and there's basically no two-way communication with them. It's all their way or the highway. They're not there to "discuss" anything; it's all rant.

I think your asking the right questions. Part to of knowing how to deal with a problem is knowing who your dealing with and the ultimate goal, true peace. When it comes to extremists you cannot reason with them so you must find another way to deal with them.

EDIT: I read some of the answers that follow mine. I wanted to let you know Im a conservative and support Bush 60% of the time. That for those who think we are rabbid, foaming at the mouth, white jihadist.....and so on. It seem extreamism is everywhere wouldn't you say.

That is a possibility but also there is a possibility for some "liberals" to be nothing more than neo-corsenatives' Troyan Horse and to be used to discern their propaganda!Also I would like to remind you that Mussolini had socialist leanings but due to its suport to war he becoame fascist! but i think what you mean is do we lose touch with the natural structure or hunam justice and social rules, that exist wjhen everythign is not laid out in rules and arguments.

I think it depends on you. you can make a personal effort to understand how these societies operate. i thjink you will be really suprised by the wisdom and justice that can be found!
