Yes I think it's a good idea which mainly is to raise awareness. Many people go about daily living without a clue about pollution and the little things that we all as individuals can do to make a huge difference in the quality of our lives.
How does growing your own tomatoes help the environment? Simply that commercial farms use lots of fuels which result in unwanted emissions plus the chemicals. Then the tomatoes have to be shipped which in turn uses more fuel and gives off more emissions. That's just tomatoes.
I have four cherry tomato plants in my yard and all I do is water them and now I have at least 200 tomatoes.
Let's face it we are polluting the planet and need to wake up about it.

I'm not sure, but if it helps stop global warming, then it is a good idea. The world leaders can't seem to get the ball rolling, so someone has to.

It's the usual dilemma with these sort of things, I think. Rock stars, politicians and general hangers on, fly their private jets half way across the world to tell US that WE need to change our habits.

Live Earth is about money and attention grabbing, it has nothing to do with the environment.
