Indians are so obsessed with cricket because cricket is the only sporting discipline in which India has had the maximum international success including winning the World Cup in 1983. Naturally, cricket has invited mass following and hefty sponsorships. Moreover, Indians seem to have a lot of spare time in their hands to watch a cricket match for the better part of the day or even for five consecutive days.

Since cricket is more revenue generating game in India lot of attention is being paid by Media, Sponsors etc. to cricket and as such the popularity of the game has been increased considerably over the last couple of years. Hence many Indians are ibsessed with cricket

Maybe there is a historical reason that we wanted to prove to the British and the world that we are as good as them or even better in a fair game. Even against Pakistan cricket is more of a prestige issue than a game. It's no wonder that the whole nation is obsessed with cricket ( and not with synchronize swimming).

We can never be obsessed with cricket. Cricket, Religion and Politics are all in the same wavelength when it comes to mass following.

Try asking Brazilians why they are obsessed with Football?Cricket is not just a sport to us, its our way of life to.There is nothing wrong getting obsessed with the game, its one thing that keeps the country united, we all celebrate when India wins and we all Cristie when India looses.
