You licence runs out when you are 72 years old and it's then that you have to retake a test if you want to continue to drive.
I think everyone, regardless of age should have to take a test every 5 years. Not many people would pass as we all form bad driving habits, eye sight gets worse etc.

why over sixties? If you look at my last question you will see I was hit by a car while crossing the road yesterday, the little madam was about 30 - 35yrs so maybe over 30s or even over 25s! To be serious though, some peoples reactions are slower and eyesight worse but not all. If you put most people of any age through another driving test they would probably fail simply because we all pick up bad habits over time. Peoples eyesight can deteriorate at any age and everyones reactions can be slower at times due to illness, distractions or just having a bad day.

I guess you have gotten the hint that those of us over 60 have better driving records, hence lower insurance rates. I agree that everyone should retake an exam every 5-10 yrs and enforce the laws and make them stricter for those who break them-not to mention: Everyone serves the same amount of time and or expenses when they do wrong. No special treatment for P. Hiltons of the world.

Its quite unfair to put restrictions on people, on adults who have already contributed to society... just because they are older.
Why 65? Thats rather arbitrary. You cant judge people based on statistics... thats a stereotype.
I fully understand your concern, and I agree. But we should treat the individual... not the group.
Because every person is different and every situation is different, and its unfair to suddenly "start" testing people for no reason other than their age has reached a "high"... I think we should all get tested every year... because even a 26 year old isnt necessarily in the right to be driving still.

Why are all under 25 not given a license at all till 25. That is when all the accidents happen and their daddies have to pay high insurance rates.

First there is the cost of simply setting the thing up. I am 73 but I am pleased to say that with my glasses my eyesight is normal and my reaction time is above average according to the machine I tested it on a few weeks ago and the idiot ( He was in his 30's I think) who pulled out in front of me last week.
try not to make comments about things you clearly do not know anything about

In Australia if you are over 80 (or 85 I cant remember) you have to geta medical to see if you are still able!! But generally I wouldnt sterotype all 60 yo to that. Insurance for over 60's is generaly cheaper here because of their driving experience. It 18-25 that is the 'accident' prone age
