How do I differentiate a manmade crystal vs a natural crystal?

Cubic Zirconia is a lab created "stone" - Swarovski crystals are not only higher quality, they are more valuable.

If you are going for the look of a diamond, Cubic Zirconia is a better diamond simulate. Swarovski crystal has too many facets and too much fire to pass for a diamond. However, nothing is better than the original - Diamond jewelry is affordable when you know where to look.

But if you are definitiely set on either a piece of Swarovski or something Cubic Zirconia - Swarovski has a better name and are usually more beautiful - but Cubic Zirconia is a better simulate.

It's a toss up, as long as you are buying something that features genuine metals such as gold, silver or platinum - Either are a good choice.

How do I differentiate a manmade crystal vs a natural crystal?

both are man made.

Cubic zirconia crystals are made by melting powdered zirconium and zirconium dioxide together and heating them up to 4,982ºF. A cubic zirconia is a perfectly man-made, flawless stone that is free of inclusions.

Swarovski crystal is made from melted hi-grade leaded glass. the heavy lead content in the glass give the stone more reflectivity and refraction which is commonly referred to as "fire" in the gemology world.

While both are created from glass, the different additives of lead and zirconium dioxide give the stones different hardness and look. Both can be cut to the same shape as a diamond but because their cone of refraction is so different then a diamond, a CZ or a Swarovski crystal will never have as much brilliance as an ideal cut diamond.

I would have to say that Cubic Zirconia is a little better investment for the most part and the more chosen choice for an alternative for a diamond. like someone said in the reply you can buy a dozen of Swarovski Crystals for the price of just one stone but that can also go the other way around it all depends on the quality!!

Swarovski crystal is not an actual crystal. It is glass with a high lead content (lead increases the index of refraction and gives it more sparkle) that has been cut and polished to shape. Cubic zirconia is an actual crystal that has been grown and then cut to bring out its fire. On a weight basis the CZ is far more valuable - you can buy a lot of crystal beads for the price of a single CZ gem.

swarovski crystal is made from hi-grade leaded glass, which is fairly common. its the way swarovski cuts the glass that adds the value. CZs are very common. i'd take the crystal.
