whenever i put it on stand by it will go on stand by mode but it will turn on again within a few seconds. solutions?

why dont u just turn the thing off?

There is a program that is looking up e-mail or otherwise checking and activating the operating system. As one small example, I have a cordless mouse that works on a digital pad (also with a pen). If I leave the mouse on the pad sometimes it is sitting right on a pixel border and the cursor jumps from one pixel to the one next to it. This is enough to keep the computer from sleeping. So the screen stays on unless I move the mouse off the pad.

Ummm... Stand by Mode is Sleep mode basically. Sleep mode makes the computer in-active. So it is kinda shut down, but It still has connections and processes going. Standby is just Sleep mode except intentianal.

If your computer has network or modem that supports wakeup calls, there is a possibility that your computer will come out of sleep . Go to device manager and see the properties of Network card or modems and try disabling things that says wake on calls or something.
