The Americans as wel as the British confuse the whole world in the way they mention dates.

If an American writes : 1--5-2007 ,
it means : January 5,2007.

If a Britisher writes :1-5-2007 ,
it means : May 1,2007.

But when they both write 07-07-'07 ,
it means , July 7,2007( or)
7July ,2007 ,
(in which the third world is not confused.)

They both confuse the world with spellings :
Cheque : Check
Harbour :Harbor
Labour :Labor
Photo :Foto

If the Americans write 'o' instead of 'ou' .

they must correct themselves more with regard to the following words :

courage : corage
country : contry
dangerous ....

Their MILLIONS also confuse others

Hi Yaar Why you worry about those figures and words.as regards to words it all comes to accent.E.G How would you pronounce LEICESTER--TRY it.If you are not british you would say LE CHES TER-- when in fact its pronounced LESTER.BELVOIR IS BEAVER oR DERBY is DARBY whereas if you are not British you would pronounce differently.Another good example--How do you say HOW ARE YOU? In London we say HOW ARE YOU--In Liverpool they say HAAYA--IN Glasgow they say HIDEER.Its a food for thought.GOOD DAY.

I'm assuming you're British.

First off, the correct American spelling of photo is, in fact, with "ph" and not "f." If you have seen it spelled with an "f," it is because it has become a very annoying habit of some American businesses to incorrectly spell words so that they start with the same letter as another word in the title in the business (i.e. Fast Foto, or something equally as stupid).

As for the rest of the words, I don't know. It could be because the majority of immigrants over the course of our comparatively brief existence as a nation were poor, generally undereducated people searching for a new beginning and the words just assimilated themselves as such into our culture.

And the dates...well it's probably that way for the same reason we're not using the metric system: the mass confusion/hysteria from general population in the USA that would ensue because they are mostly lazy and unwilling to adapt and change.

And a question in return: do you spell "hour" with the "u?" If so, then do you pronounce "harbour" as "harb-hour?" I hope you see what I mean.

Last year June 6, 2006 (6-06-06), seemed to hold so much significance (666) the number of the mark of the beast. In a few days 7-11-07 will be here too. To gamblers this is also a very lucky day. (3) sevens are considered highly by christians. The Lords number is 7. So (07/07/07) by many even those that do not consider themselves christian, is a can't lose day. The luckiest day of this century.

In many cultures, the number 7 is considered a lucky number. Since 7-7-07 involves triple 7's (3 is also lucky), it is considered a particularly auspicious date. In Asian (Chinese-based) cultures, next year's date of 8-8-08 is the incredibly lucky date, because the number 8 means prosperity.

Nothing specific happened in 07-07-1007, which was also 07-07-07; so, even if anythings notable occurs on 07-07-07(2007), 07-07-07 is not responsible.

In the Bible the letter 7 represents perfection or completion.

But you are right regarding the spelling difference. And the other thing is if you are doing a project, its pointless to let your computer spell check because it will not be done in the English's version.

here are two other words

Hardly matters how carelessly you write English words. When any language becomes international or national language, such complications are natural. Now-a-days, most people are barely interested in linguistic purity - in fact, purity of any kind. However, it hardly matters to me.
