Does the class meet on Sunday; or how are you supposed to deliver this assignment?

I think 12 AM Sunday means the very first second of Sunday morning (or late Saturday night for night owls)

Every day has an AM and a PM time for each hour (1-12), 12 PM refers to 12 Noon. 12 AM is midnight.

I would say that it is highly likely that the statement of a deadline of 12 AM Sunday could easily be confused by many people as being the instant Saturday changes to Sunday or the instant Sunday changes to Monday (midnight).

The day starts at 12:00 am, now if we go as per you wrote then its means as Sunday starts (at 12:00 am) the assignment is to be ready.
If your teacher has given a time by mistake and meant to complete by Monday then its a different story.

According to my sources, Sunday 12 am is also midnight Sunday. That cannot be Monday. In the source article, midnight is the start of a day, 12 am is midnight. Therefore Sunday 12 am is one minute after Saturday night 11:59 pm.
edit: how can you rate a thumbs down for truth?

12 AM on Sunday is the minute after 11:59 PM on the Saturday so you're off by a day. 12 AM Monday is after 11:59 PM on Sunday.

If it is stated "12am Sunday", and you then turn it in on Sunday, you're too late. The teacher/professor probably meant it is due Sunday and should have said "12 am Monday". But, what school has classes in session on a Sunday...okay okay unless it is Sunday School.

Not necessarily. Your teacher either forgot that 12 am constitutes a new day, or your teacher meant that the assignment is due at 12 am following saturday night.
