With the "the" in front of it? But we don't call other countries the China, the Canada, etc., we just say China or Canada.

If you're going to say it's because of the islands, then why don't we call Hawaii "the Hawaii"?

It seems like we put a "the" in front of countries that end with an "s". for instance, "the United States"

the whole call of the Philippines is "Republic of the Philippines." I actual have countless motives for that reckoning on utilization: (a million) The sound of the 1st syllable of the notice "Philippines" demands a piece of writing. case in point, you're saying, "i offered this from Malaysia" yet no longer, "i offered this from Philippines." For the sentence to be grammatically splendid, you would be able to desire to assert "i offered this from the Philippines." interior the comparable way, you're saying "I stay in Malaysia" and "I stay interior the Philippines." (3) once you're saying "The Philippines" or "The Republic of the Philippines," you nicely known that actuality that Philippines as composed via countless factors or islands yet might prefer to communicate with all of them. without the object "the," you communicate with the Philippines as a unmarried entity or entire. So, it some sentences, with or without "the" are the two perfect. as an occasion, "Philippines is a southeast Asian usa," and "The Philippines became into as quickly as governed via the Spaniards."

I noticed that too. Maybe because when you just put Philippines, the sentence doesn't seem right. EX: I'm going to Philippines.

Darkblob has a point.

They do call call Hawaii "the Hawaiian Islands"...Hawaii is the state name. We call "The Bahamas" "The Bahamas" and "The Florida Keys" "The Florida Keys" ...so it is the island status for "The Phillipines"...
