Your impulsive act - be it jokingly or otherwise - shows disrespect for your teacher, your school, your classmates, the author of the book, and on top of all, for learning and education in general. If all those will not warrant a detention, what, in your opinion, will?

Well, kind of. Even though it was jokingly, she probably gave you detention because you threw the book. It's important to treat a book with care, and that's probably why. If it was your own book, then it wasn't really her place to say, but if it was the school's, she had every right to. Hope I helped a little.

You should learn to respect books. I do think that our teacher was right in teaching you a lesson.

It is worthy of detention. jever do that again

Yes, it is as disruptive as throwing anything else in class. If it was a hardcover book, then you could have done some damage to school property or injured someone.

yeah, sorry to say it, but i do think you kinda deserved it! books shouldn't be thrown around, they're too... well... fragile (sounds weird, but loads of my books are falling to bits =S=S=S because i haven't taken care of them as much as maybe i should have).

i think it more depends on what kind of book, or a book of what??? lol, cos if it was like a first edition of Winnie the Pooh or something, then you deserved alll you got!!! but if it was just a much read paperback, then that wouldnt' be so bad, but still not good!

lol, this is getting confusing now!! =]

How was the teacher to know you wouldn't next throw something at your fellow students or at a teacher?

Depends on what the book was. Under some situations (like if it was one of my books), I might have expelled you. Pax - C

Absolutely. You did not show respect for your teacher and non for the book itself.
