My good friend is 16 and works at a local restaurant.
His shift there started at 8:30PM, and they kept him there working until 1:30AM.
Is this against any laws? At all?

Hi, I am the friend. See, we are supposed to get out about 11. It wasn't bad working till 1, because I only started at 8 30. But Saturday I start at 5. Will probably be working later, and without breaks. No extra pay.

The federal government doesn't have any requirements for kids over the age of 16. However, each state has it's own child labor laws. Look around and see what you find on the Department of Labor's website. Good luck!

I don't think so... a 16 year old can work a full 40 hours during the Summer.

Assuming you're in the states. It is summer vacation from school the law allows for teens to have more hours during this time.

Yes, it's against the law in California because minors aren't allowed to work later than 10pm, I believe it is.

Are they paying him for all those hours or? As long as they paid him there is nothing illegal because he is doing his shift.

No its only six hours, that's still consider part time, unless they leave your friend to close the restaurant by herself than it not illegal.

If it was illegal i don't think he'd be workin there in the first place and the boss can pretty much keep him as long as he wanted.
