My friend's father and brother are truck drivers. Many times, foriegners tourists would walk into a convenience store in LV, NM and ask the clerk where the casinos were. My friend's father and brother found it hillarious. I found it sad. NM could be mistaken for NV when they made their reservations or plans. Many people spend their life savings traveling to the wrong destination. Waste of money and time. Couldn't travel agents or others been more helpful to prevent that mistake. How else would that happen? Through the internet? Comments? Opinions?

I lived in LV, New Mexico about 10 years ago. The funniest problem I ever had was with a credit card (Spiegel). I sent pmt. for the full balance before I moved there and gave them my new address. A nearly six months later, I discovered that they had closed the account for non-payment...seems I still owed them about $3 in interest after the payoff...they had been billing me but I didn't get the bills. When we investigated, we (the customer service rep. and I) discovered that every time they put "NM" in the system, it automatically "corrected the error" and changed NM to NV! They had been billling me at a non-existent address in Nevada for months...even putting in the correct zip code didn't help! They had to give that one to the programmers.

I suspect that your friend's father and brother would not be laughing if they tried to find their way around in India or China or any country that English was not the primary language. They would undoubtable end up far from their intended destination, and the local people would probably find it very funny.

Las Vegas, NM is too small a town for people to fly, so the tourist who make it their are drivers who have made a mistake based on poor pre-planning.

The south rim is interior the Grand Canyon nationwide Park. it somewhat is completel risk-free, and the roads are all paved. it somewhat is a protracted force to end a around holiday in a single day. The south rim is the main senic component to the Grand Canyon. it somewhat is going to be crowded on July 4th. If this is your in basic terms danger to confirm the canyon then choose for it. I recommend which you plan a visit to the Grand Canyon and stay some days at between the resorts interior the park. Make your reservation nicely in improve. Hike the trails and take in all that the park has to grant. Vegas would be a short quit on your way in or out.

I have got another one ... I heard of someone that had to go to Durango in the State of Durango in Mexico for an emergency with their family. They got a bus ticket as fast as they could... when they got off the bus they were in Durango ... Colorado

(Durango, Colorado is like Aspen)

True strory

Oh they shouldn't be too upset ... Las Vegas, NM has a lot of old west history to visit ... not much for tourist, but it was one of the deadliest towns around. Unlike Durango, Colorado where you need skiis

That is sad. Yes, you would think that travel agents would be able to prevent that. On the internet when you are booking a Las Vegas trip you think that on the New Mexico one there wouldn't be any adds for casinos or when it says surrounding activites that they would figure it out.

I would hate for that to happen to me. Very sad.

I can only say the travel agent should know better. The only think you can do is have a local tourism board with a web site warning the tourists.
