I got it in the 7th grade. I woke up with it and i told my mom there was blood in my underwear. Moms are very understanding. Don't be scared it happens to all girls. I'm not gonna say congrats cuz thats not what i wanted to hear. Just tell your mom.

I got my first period when I was 9 years old, on Thanksgiving. I was in my room playing with my cousins and I got a really sharp pain (cramp) and I thought that it was because I ate too much. I went to the bathroom a little while Iater and I saw that there was blood and I was kind of freaked out, I knew about periods and everything, and my older sister (who was 12 at the time) had just gotten hers a few months before, but I thought something was wrong because I was so young. I went to my sister and told her, but all she had was tampons, so I went to my mom and told her "I think I got my period" then she cried and then called all the women in my family into the room (everyone was there for the holiday) and my grandmother and my aunts all came in and I was so embarressed.

I was the same age as you. I was at my house. I remember going to pee and I looked down at my panties and saw that I was spotting blood. I was freaking out because I forgot that kind of stuff happens to, us, girls lol. I was screaming for her while I was on the toilet, and when she finally came in she just started laughing and told me I had my period. And I felt stupid because I was told about this a long time ago.
It's no big deal to tell them. You don't really have to tell your dad. Just tell mom.
Make sure you use a pad until you're ready for a tampon. There is a risk for using a tampon. It's rare, but, I think it gives some girls some sort of shock where they can't move or pass out or something. I can't really remember. But the pad will feel like a diaper, at first. You'll get used to it though.

I got mine when I was 11. I think I was just at home and I felt really weird so i went in the bathroom and yeah. I didn't tell my mom because I wasn't sure if I had it or not and when I did I didn't know how to tell her.
If you told your dad your dad would just tell you to ask your mom!
Well anyways my mom found out by herself and she got mad at me for not telling her. You should tell her. Just go up to her and be like..."Mom, I think I have my period." and see how the rest goes!
Good luck!

Just tell her n get it over with. It may be embarrassing at your age but on the plus side statistics have shown that the earlier you begin your period the less likely you are to have ovarian cancer when you get older.
I didn't get my period till I was 18 and now at thirty I have cysts. Going by the statistics it was a given I guess.

I was 9 when I had my first period. I don't remember the when or where, but I know I must have freaked out and told my mom right away. She was surprised that I had it so early.
You should tell your mom. She will be able to help you and answer any questions. You don't need to be embarrassed (if that's why you haven't told them), they are your parents and know it will happen sooner or later.
Good luck!

Ugh, I was 14, and sadly I was in a completely different city for the day on a day-trip to this Hawaiian festival. I just got a little freaked out and I just went and told my mom as calmly as possible once I got out of the bathroom. Just tell your mom, she will understand better than anyone. Good luck.

It was a month and one day before I turned 12 (the same for my mom) and I was at school. I handled it really cool and calm and collected because before then I was doing a lot of research on beinggirl.com so I knew what to expect and what to do and whatnot. But my mom picked me up from school (I hadn't told her yet) and when we pulled in the driveway, I was just like "oh yeah, mom. I started my period today." so.. it was crazy.

I was 11. I noticed blood on my underwear, and I immediately knew I got it. I tried to hide the fact that I had got it, but my mum eventually found out, and it was and is embarassing to me, even though I know every girl gets it. But it's a bit better now.

hahaha OMG i have the worst story.
i was 11 and i remember the exact date (oct. 22, 2003) because it was my friend's birthday.
i was at a sleepover for her birthday.
i was shy and didn't reaaally know what was going on so i just used toilet paper and didn't tell anyone all night long and i pretended that nothing was wrong.
so, the next day we were gonna go to the mall and go around, but i figured that my parents were home i'd stop there and tell my mom. but no, no one was home, and i had to continue for another like 3 hrs without any help and just toilet paper.
ohhh it was horrible. finally when i got home i told my mom and after that i dont really remember. haha
