I live in a house with no phone line, sattelite tv, a good laptop (I use for school), and an old computer (windowsME).

I want a fast connection. What is the best service you guys. DSL with a wifi router or broadband card for my laptop?

Any other suggestion? what you YOU have and you MUCH do you pay?

The cable broadband isnt such a bad Idea though. How much do you guys usually pay for it and are you happy with the speed/service?

how on earth does someon not have phone lines and still using Win Me (the worst there ever was from Micro$oft) where do you live ?? on some deserted island with the other knuckle draggers and people trying to figure out the whole fire concept ??

I have a 6 mb/sec DSL - I love it, but I want a fiber conxn @ $30 a month
Verizion FIOS has a 50 mb/sec package for about $120 a month

If you are so poor you have an old Me it wont matter what speed of connection you have because the bottleneck is your crap computer...get rid of it and instead of spending money on a pointless i-net conxn - go buy 2 gerbils and a spinning wheel...they will be just as fast at computations as that computer of yours, and probably more reliable

Some info, As you know Phone Dial up is slowest, followed by DSL and then followed by Cable speed wise.
So in a nutshell DSL is very good, however Cable is faster and better.
Next you will need a multiport Wireless Router to connect to the Modem your Internet Service Provider will furnish with there service.
This will enable you to connect any computer without a wireless card with an ethernet cable and then anything with a wireless card can be used with the new wireless router you buy. Most will offer you a special deal for the 1st year, cost wise.

If you do not have a phone line the best bet would to be use cable broad band. Getting a 4-port wireless router + a wireless card will run about $100. I recommend Linksys or Netgear.

I use Comcast, and the speed is really worth the price. Comcast also includes free security.
