I use windows media player. The clip is a .WMV and it's about 50 minutes long. But get this, 46 seconds into it, it freezes and the dialog window says: "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file." Why would it say that if it's alredy playing as a windows media video file already? Could the clip be composed of different formats like .avi, .mpg, .mpeg or .asf? How can I fix this?

The clip is most likely corrupted. You should find a way to re download it. If you don't have the right codec then it will not play at all, therefore it's not a codec problem. Only thing I think it can be is file corruption. Also it is not possible for a single clip to have different codecs used at different intervals.
