The message this 24hr concert is sending is about conservation, environmental issues and preservation,...so what I want to know is, will all the stage lights, instruments, mics, speakers etc be solar powered? Will food, programmes, T shirts all be biodegradable? Will the litter picked up at the end of the show be burned to fuel some sort of power source?

And out of the 140 (approx) countries it will be aired in, how many will watch their TVs that are solar powered?.....I don't even think there'll be ONE coz they don't exist!

So in order to raise awareness of this subject (saving our planet) just think how much energy we'll be draining (nuclear or otherwise) just to watch it for 24hrs or otherwise! It's too huge to imagine!

We should actually BOYCOTT this event, refuse to turn our TVs on and form a picket line outside to stop people going in!!!

Am I completely insane or do you agree with me?

I read somewhere online about what the concert people are doing to make themselves be "green" for these shows. They're using some special lighting on the stages, the vendors are being urged to use recycled and recycleable items, as well as using eco friendly (hybrid) vehicles to get around in. There's a lot more but I can't think of the rest right now.

Either way, I think these concerts are a bunch of crap. I'm all for saving the planet (I'm not a vegan nor am I a conservationist), but I just don't understand how 24hrs of concerts will get everyone to change their minds about the environment. I'm sure there's other ways of getting the point across without contradicting yourselves at the same time.

The whole Global Warming scam is just a money making and tax scam. I note that these stars are still jetting round the world to gigs and politicians still jet round the world to meet other politicians. If the prats were really serious about the problem, if it exists, then they would all go to a studio near their home and play there either to record or for live distribution. The politicians would merely pick up the telephone and call the other party but no these are just tax payer junkets and no politician worth his salt, note that B'liar made a round the world farewell tour, will give up these. I did not listen to the Diana Spencer memorial gig, don't think that she was worth all the hype, so I certainly will not be listening to this one. As you say maybe everybody should switch off their televisions and radios while the event is on in support of the cause, Global Warming, that would save the Planet.

Ratings for Al Gore's Live Earth concerts are coming in and they are not good. On NBC it did worse than normal programming for that slot, which includes repeats and NHL hockey, and finished in last place. In the UK, only 2 million watched, as opposed to 10 million for the Live 8 concerts. Perhaps people were just outside enjoying the beautiful, slightly cooler than average temperatures over the weekend. Or, more likely, people are starting to recognize the hypocrisy of environmentalists putting on an event like this, that uses up more energy than some entire countries use. - G.B.

live earth is a big stupid waste of time. the only way to save the environment is to put the earths resources in the hands of the people instead of the coorporations who use it all irresponsibly. this is only possible through a peoples revolution. if you truly care about the environment, join the revolutionary struggle for socialism.
that being said, however, sometimes the ends justify the means. for example, if we want to live in a peaceful world, we will first have to go through a period of great bloodshed. many will die and others imprisoned. but if ,in the end, we live in a world free from war, greed and hunger , it will be worth the cost.

I think that the benefit of this concert will outweigh the bad. It is only one day--some of these bands/groups don't play very often any more. Not everyone will watch the entire concert--some people won't watch at all.

I feel fairly confident that we will hear something about this contradiction when the concert airs. Again, I feel the good will outweigh the bad as far as this concert goes.

Well as you said, the green-friendly energy sources do not exist. Maybe by donating the money to raise awareness and create alternative energy sources, we might be able to leave a planet for our children to enjoy.

BTW I know the planet will survive whatever we may throw at it, I just think it might be nice that we and our progeny might be able to stay here a little longer.

Oh I completely agree with you, but then again the "global warming" crowd never makes any sense anyway, and all this "carbon neutral" crap is just sickening. It is junk science, it's alarmist, and none of the people who want to condemn other people seem to be polluting any less themselves. It all about elitist America trying to appear to be "aware".

Blech, I hate celebrities.

I don't care. It doens't matter what anyone says or does, the Earth will warm because we're coming out of an Ice Age, not because of man. We may even be in an interglacial period.

i agree that it is a contradition, but at least they are doing something. if it takes these concerts to get people to save the world, then im fine with it. there are plenty of other concerts out there saving nothing, so this is ok.
