May 31, 9:04 p.m. EDT - The Blue Moon. The second full Moon occurring within a calendar month is usually bestowed this title

A Blue moon is not actually blue in color. The term is used to describe the 2nd Full moon in the same month. The moon is full roughly every 28 days, so a blue moon doesn't happen all that often, hence the phrase, "Once in a Blue Moon." On May 2nd, 2007, there was a Full moon and another on May 31. The Full moon at the end of the month of May was the "Blue" Moon.

A number of links to names of other Full Moons. Here are 2:

It is called a blue moon because of the rare occurance of the full moon. The month of June was known for the blue moon because we had 2 full moons in the same month.

A "blue moon" isn't actually colored blue. A blue moon is nothing more than a full moon that happens twice in a single month. Such events aren't all that rare though.
