It just means people who live an artistic or different lifestyle. Poets, writers, actors, etc. If that's the main focus of their life and their a little 'off beat' you might call them bohemian :-)

La Boheme (the opera the play and movie are based on) is Italian for the bohemian... the people in the opera are the artistc people; a musician, a poet.
Bohemians are artsy people; poets, actors'actresses, and most of the women are feminists (not that that is a bad thing.) They live more richly than they can afford (show many times in the opera) La vie boheme means "the ways of bohemeians" or some such thing... in RENT, they are toasting to the ways of the bohemians; a famous person once said "Take care of the luxuries and the nesscessities will take care of themselves." I can't remember who, but that's a rule bohemians live by.

its like, people who live an artistic lifestyle. writers, musicians, actors, photogrophers, etc. rent is in many ways based off the opera la boheme and the song title la vie boheme means "living in bohemia" or "the bohemian life".

a bohemian is just known to live a very loose, artistic life. they i guess u could say dont care about money and those kinds of needs, they focous on the more importaint needs in life. love, orginality, and that kind of thing, and stress for their art.

hope i helped!

*yay rent!*
