Why is it a law to buckle your seatbelt while driving but it is legal for a woman to choose whether or not to have an abortion?

If it is the woman's right to do what she wants with her body, why is it a law to tell her to buckle up?

A bit hypocritical.... but I want to hear other people's points.

Again, although I don't agree, a fetus has no legal standing as a person and based on that, there is no reasonable expectation to protection under any law.

As far as "Seat belts", whole different bag of worms. I'm sure we've all heard of the instances where a person was ejected clear of the wreck that burst into flames and other scenarios that would "justify" not wearing seat belts.

Statistically, chances of surviving an accident are higher if properly restrained, but can any law cover all possibilities...absolutely not, so the law is based on probability.

And then there's the real reason, it's a huge cash cow for municipalities. It's like doubling traffic fines in a construction zone, or in New Mexico they have what they call "Safety Corridors" where fines are doubled for no apparent reason what so ever.

So anyhow, no, not hypocritical until the law gives status to the unborn.

What I do think is hypocritical is that the mother can choose to abort, and the biological father, even if known, has no choice. Granted the fetus is "in" the mother's body, but it is genetically as much the father's child as the mother's and I believe the father's perception of when life begins needs to be considered.

either way you look at their is always going to be a war about abortions because some people just don't believe in them. I am one who has an open mind on it and no i don't think women should use it as a form of birth control but in rape or insest, or if it could kill you or the baby to give birth then i can understand a woman doing it but just using it as birth control that pisses me off.

Many laws are inconsistent with each other in principle. That's the result of a body of law created piecemeal over generations.

Welcome to America!!

Law is neither moral nor immoral it is simply the law.

Do some reading on Roe vs Wade. She seems to have changed her mind and her story since the Supreme Court Case.

Welcome to America where voting makes a difference!
