None.
The diamond industry started the 2 month rule.
It is an individual choice how much to spend. My thought is the guy should have to save up for it and cut his personal spending, but should never go into debt to buy it.

They say three. Now its cut down to two. I went with whatever my wife said she wanted at the time. She didnt want a huge ring, she is a tiny girl. I went for a flawless, clear .70 ct which ran about two weeks salary. We pocketed the rest and put it towards our honeymoon.

The ad on TV says three month's salary! Well, back in the day, that is about what mine cost, but certainly not by today's standards.

A guy doesn't have to spend any money to get married to the woman he loves. If that's expected of him, then maybe it should be expected that brides are virgins before they marry. I just think it's materialistic to EXPECT a guy to spend so much money on something than can be lost or stolen. He should buy what's reasonable.

It is said to be 2 month's pay but if she really cares for you and shares your values, then spend what you CAN without a hardship.

Have to spend? I'd say 1 months. He really doesn't "have" to spend much.
