I was wondering how soon you are fertile after giving birth and when can you expect your menstrual cycle after having a child? I am afraid of being pregnant again and I have a 4-week old. I feel so bad already so please don't make me feel stupid :)

I was also wondering what would happen if I was pregnant. Do you think I would have any complications?

You are fertile pretty much right away. EVEN IF YOU ARE BREASTFEEDING. I can't tell you how many "irish twins" I've seen in my time. There are many women who show up to their 6 week checkups finding out that they are expecting again. There is no stupid question. Don't feel bad. I'm guessing that there are many people looking for this same answer who were afraid to ask.

Many women get pregnant while they are breast feeding or shortly after they have healed after giving birth! You must have had a speedy healing process since your baby is ony 4 weeks old and you think your pregnant! And why do you feel bad? It good for you that you have healed so quickly! Its very possible to get pregant now so now more then ever you need to use protection! Your body just isnt ready to be prgnant again! Its ideal to wait for 13 months or so just to get everything completely back to normal. Well if I were you I would go to the doctor and get a pregnancy test done. If your not pregnant you may want to ask your doctor about birth control, just to be safe. If you are pregnant at least your kids will be close in age! lol. Although this pregnancy may be worse or even better then your first! I depends on how well your first went and how well your body is holding up. Good luck hun!

When a woman becomes fertile again depends upon many variables. If she is breastfeeding exclusively – not using formula supplements at all - and she is not having periods, fertility can be delayed for up to six months with high reliability. If supplements such as formula or solid foods are offered, fertility may return. It depends upon the woman's fertility level prior to the pregnancy, the baby's patterns of feeding and whether or not periods have resumed. If a woman does not breastfeed, fertility can return as soon as two weeks after birth. More commonly, fertility returns between two and six weeks postpartum.

The bottom line is to use some form of protection all of the time unless a pregnancy would be OK. Condoms are best initially. If breastfeeding, you should wait until milk supply is well established before using birth control pills.

Hi,

Don't feel bad, goodness knows you've probably yet to have enough sleep!

Congratulations on your new baby:)

If you're not looking to get PG again anytime soon always make sure to take precautions regardless of whether or not your menstral cycle is back on track. You just never know.

If you're breastfeeding your child then your cycle may not come back for awhile. That said I breastfed both of mine and I had a period within 8 weeks after postpartum bleeding had stopped.

You don't need to physically be having periods to get pregnant, all you have to do is ovulate.

Take care!

If you are afraid of becoming pregnant again, you should probably use some birth control or abstain all together. You can get pregnant anytime you have sex after giving birth.
As for when your cycle comes back after a baby, that can vary too. If you are breastfeeding your cycle normally will come back much later than if you arent breastfeeding (mine came back 9 months after I had my son even though I was still breastfeeding).

You can get pregnant at the same time breastfeeding - I have no idea why they might have instructed you that. Breastfeeding can prolong the go back of your interval (and accordingly ovulation), but it surely doesn't suggest that at the same time you're breastfeeding you are not able to get your interval again. My pal obtained pregnant at the same time she was once breastfeeding. But, due to the fact it delays ovulation then it makes you "much less fertile" in some way. I feel the rationale they are saying you're "extra fertile" is since you do not know while to count on your ovulation and durations to begin again up once more - so there's no strategy to time it so that you've intercourse at the same time you don't seem to be ovulating. Basically, if you do not desire to get pregnant after giving beginning then get on beginning manage and/or use condoms. If you desire to have one other one as quickly as viable then have unprotected intercourse up to you desire. Everyone is distinctive, so what is right for one girl is probably not for the following. I desire this is helping you. Yes, as one other reply has recounted - you are not able to ovulate greater than as soon as in line with cycle, so that you don't seem to be "extra fertile" in that feel.

This is an individual thing. Some women are so fertile that if a man looks at them, they become pregnant (O.K., I'm exaggerating, but you get the point). Other women have a very low "risk" of becoming pregnant.
To be on the "safe" side, assume a woman can become pregnant at any time.

You can get pregnant soon after giving birth if you are having unprotected sex. If you are breastfeeding you may not experience a period for a long time. My son is almost 4 months and I breastfeed and I have not had a period yet ( I am NOT pregnant) -good luck!

I will tell you that I have two children that are about 10 months apart. I got pregnant with my 2ND child about a month or a month in a half of having my first child. Be careful and get a pregnancy test because it is very possible. Good Luck!

You can have a child almost imediately after you have a baby. My sisters are 10 months apart that means my mom got pregnant again after only 1 month. I suggest that you start a birth control if you are having sex again.
