I'm having a boy, but if it were a girl, I wanted to name her Lana. The thing is that it spells "Anal" backwards. My questions are do you like the name Lana? And would you name your daughter that regardless of the backward spelling?

Also, what are some other ways to spell "Lana"?

You could spell it Layna. It's a cute name but it's not for me. (I say that...My daughter's middle name is Layne. I guess that's close enough). If I really liked it then even though it spelled something bad backwards I might consider it. My daughter's name is Asa and everyone said that people would think of *** but I found that rediculous since I love the name so much and it hasn't come up yet. She gets more people calling her Asia...People will always find some way to screw up a name so I wouldnt worry about it.

If my son had been a girl we would have named him Lana. I never once thought about the backwards spelling thing and I don't think most people do think about that. Perhaps thinking about what the name would look like backwards *IS* the only anal thing about the whole situation.
But when you're pregnant your mind goes to bizarre places.
I think Lana is a beautiful name just the way it is.

I like Lanah or Laney. I don't think it will be obvious(the reverse spelling) if you like Lana better.
I am trying to decide if I want a girl with the initials EEW. I am afraid people would make fun of that too, but I like a lot of names that start with E.

You can always make her official name Alana, then just call her Lana. I like both names.
PS- I went to school with an Alana. Noone makes fun of this name like previously mentioned.

You could call her Lanah and that would solve the spelling issue (and by the way... lana means wool in spanish, sorta weird haha).
Lanah is way better :D

Ummm... that's funny b/c i would have never picked up on it but kids in school will... i know that sounds like a long time from now and may seem kinda trivial, but it will mean the world to your child when they get picked on... and you won't know until then if your child will be able to stand up to it... what about alana? or something. i think i would change it like that or the spelling or something... good luck!

I never think of the backwards spellings, so I don't think it matters.
Lannah, maybe. I'm not too big on it though,

I wouldn't worry about the backwards spelling, but if it bugs you alot, use Lanna or use it as a nickname for a full name like:
Alana/Alanna/Alannah
Iolana
Milana
Noelani
Nalani
