I just got an mp3 player that will not let me put songs on it from my pc. I keep getting a message saying that it will work faster with a 2.0 high speed hub. My windows media isnt even recognizing it. How do I get this high speed hub??? or is there something else I could try?

The hub is your USB port. If you have an old computer, it probably has a USB 1.1 connection. Your MP3 player is probably only compatible with USB 2.0 connections.

What Windows is telling you is that you've plugged your mp3 player, which is capable of transmitting data at USB 2.0 speeds (480 Mbps), into a USB slot that is working at USB 1.1 speeds, which is slower. There should be no problem plugging the mp3 player into the slot; it may just seem a little slow. You can always upgrade your computer and get a USB 2.0 PCI card for about $30.00.

As for Windows Media Player not recognizing the mp3 player, I'm afraid I can't help you there. If it is an iPod, you must use iTunes. Windows Media Player won't recognize that.

Your computer needs to support USB 2.0 ... just plugging a new 2.0 hub into what you have will do nothing more than extend the 1.1 you have now. If you do have USB 2.0 capable ports...they may be a second set or lower set on the back of the computer. If you do not have them...you need to get a USB add-on card...all the new ones are 2.0 compliant.

Older computers have USB-1 the newer ones have USB-2 or higher speed connections. If you have an older machine you will only be limited to USB-1 connection speeds.
However, if your computer is equiped with USB-2 then any USB-2 Powered Hub will work and work just fine with your computer. Remember it has to be a Powered Hub with it's own Power adapter.

NONE OF THESE ANSWERS WILL WORK...

YOU NEED TO BUY A PCI USB 2 CARD (about $40.00) because if you simply plug in a USB2 hub to a USB 1.1 port - you just made that hub a bunch of additional 1.1 ports....think about it

the max throughput of usb 1.1 ia 100 MBs / sec - you cant speed that up by simply plugging somehting faster to it...you have to get something faster attached to your motherboard.

That is sort of odd, you may need to install a driver for the usb device.(this is proprietary) Typically, it will say it can run faster but still work.

At any rate, you can buy something like this...
http://www.usb-2-0.com/belkin-f5u219.html

You can also get them with a bunch of hubs, say 4-6.
Given your computer is telling you this, you should probably install one of these anyway. USB 1.0 is crazy slow. 2.0 will allow you to move stuff like music, images from your camera, and so on, much faster. Memory sticks for instance transfer data much, much, faster w/USB 2.0

I hope that helps

I hope your computer isn't too old, but if you go buy a 2.0 usb hub and your computer can handle the extra pull you will like it. Good luck.

you need to buy new usb ports which you really do that easily. just go to walmart and find a hub with 2.0 ports on it. it should cost that much and it plugs into an existing old usb port.

well it is your computer that dosn't have 2.0. it just sends things faster.

go to a computer store like staples, office max, best buy, or circuit city and they sell usb hub that change 1.1 speed to 2.0
