Using wireless there are security settings depending on the age and Operating System your computer has.
With any wireless Router you can set up Security Encryption. WEP is the older and was followed by WPA and then WPA-2 which is the most secure of all, as I said all wireless routers have these available. These require you to set up a username and password to access your network.
Otherwise you hvae No protection using an OPEN Network that anyone in range can use.
Almost all Banking establishments have secure networks that require you to sign in with username and password.
Now if you are using an Open Network anyone in range can get on and use without you knowing where they go unless you have a dedicated software that would let you trace there movements. I suggest you do a Google search for any software of this nature.

If you have to go into your router and type the MAC of your laptop before your laptop can access the router then no one besides you can access your router.

Generally, if you log in to the router you can see who has been issued an IP address, both the wired connections and wireless ones. You can't get a more detailed log than that.
