Today was my first day on learning how to drive. Now I'm scared of trying again. My problem was that I moved the steering wheel to much and when I turn it I cant get it back to normal. I feel like I'm going to crash now. But my question is if most people are scared the first time and about when we'll I stop being scared? Were you scared your first time?

Everyone is either nervous or scared the first time you learn to drive hon. Firstly you need to make sure you have a good driving instructor with you and if I was teaching you how to drive, we would first be driving out in the middle of no-where so you can get used to the car and gain a bit of confidence. I used to start off by teaching my friends at a deserted big car park late at night that wasn't being used. It also helps if the person teaching you is very patient and calm as well. Believe in yourself and believe in your ability and that you can do it. Practice makes perfect and within time, you will gain more confidence. Also when you're driving, make sure you are aware of all your surroundings and not just what's in front of you. Be aware of what other drivers are doing and eye contact is good cause the other drivers don't always do the right thing either. I was scared my first time too hon and after 20 years of driving, I wonder what all the fuss was about because it's as natural as breathing. Get back behind the wheel as soon as you can because you have to give yourself a chance. The first time is always the hardest and believe me, it will get easier and you will get better and more confident!! Good luck!

When i first started to drive, I was excited and scared. I was Really nervous on the roads. Especially when i went on the freeways/highways... I had that same steering wheel problem.
I'd say though that it probably lasted a couple of months at most, but with plenty of practice, until i felt fine to drive on my own. I remember it, as i thought it was strange how one day it just kicked in and i knew how to drive.... I was nervous for so long and then all of a sudden, you just know. It's like learning to ride a bike i guess, when at first you keep falling off and you wobble the bike, but then one day you just know!
You'll get it soon, with plenty of practice - dont worry about it too much, as its fun learning. In a few years you'll be stuck in traffic hating driving...

I have my dad beside me the first time I ever hit the accelerator paddle and actually drove a car. It was my dad and not some stranger instructor, so it felt better for me.

My biggest fear is stepping on the wrong peddle, that is hitting the accelerator when I needed to brake lol. It did happened the the fear of that creeped in me, it only went away after sometime once I got it right and never made that mistake again.

It will eventually goes away. Of course its much easier if you don't repeat those mistakes, as if you do, it will usually bring the fear back.

Take your time. driving is fun once you get it right, and you will eventually, its just a matter of time.

Nope. The only bad thing about learning how to drive was my mother screaming at me to slow down every 2 minutes. She was soooo mean that I refused to drive with her anymore. I seriously pulled over, got out of the car, and started to walk home, lol.

My advice to you is, get an experienced driver to take you to a cemetary to practice driving. Preferrably one w/ flat, in-ground headstones. That way there's nothing to crash into, and you'll get the hang of driving. Besides... you can't kill anyone there cuz they're already dead!

Join the first time scared club. Keep trying and you'll get used to the wheel. Just take your time and DON'T be nervous.

I don't think scared as much as nervous but that's normal to be scared especially if you haven't really practiced driving... but you will get use to it, its you just have to get use to how to drive the car, and the parts of it! Good Luck! =) and plz warn me before you get on the road so i know to stay clear of the streets! just joking!

I had that same exact problem today! Was Carol Harder your teacher? Don't worry, you will get the hang of it, when you turn left; after the turn you have to turn the wheel back to it's normal position.

Yes I was scared and I'm still I'm. I'm learning how to drive too. What help me was to think in my head that I can do this lot and lot of people drive, "way can't I, it's no big deal", my mom keeps telling me "it's like driving a bike". So I just acted like no big deal and like I'm in control it work. "Good luck" to both of us. :D
