My question is that I am taking an old man a car that came from Arkansas. I am driving from Texas to Flordia but the problem is that the tags are out of date! This car does not belong to me I'm just doing this as a favor! What are the laws on driving the vehicle from here to there with expired tags? Are they the same as driving it in any state? Also with the insurance is it true that my insurance will cover the vehicle if it has temporary tags? Thanks

That's a pretty big favor to do for someone. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the insurance and registration issues.

Easiest thing for you to do is probably put the car on a flatbed, insure it as cargo instead of as a motor vehicle, and tow the thing over. Save yourself the bureaucratic grief by shipping the car as cargo.

You'll have to check with your insurance company but I'd be willing to bet they will only cover the car if the temporary tag is in your name. You will need to get valid tags or risk receiving a fine for driving with the outdated ones. The only exception is; if you just purchased the car, you should have so many days or hours (depending on the State) to register it. Then you must carry the bill of sale with you!

If you drive it, you are responsible for the fines for not having valid tags. It's a REALLY stupid idea. Your insurance may not cover you. Call your insurance company and ASK THEM.
