Thank you for asking this question. YES, most liberals care about our country. So do most conservatives. Anyone who pretends that people who don't agree with their methods are somehow unpatriotic is blinding themselves with the most simplistic of propaganda. Worse, anyone who pretends that the people who don't agree with their methods aren't worth listening to is destroying the very basis of democracy.
Democracy is about listening to each other, respecting each other, and compromising. If we can't do that much, then our very ideals are faulty to the core.

So let's see: the fire department, the police department, the post office, the teachers--all these are paid by the government and they seem to run just fine to me. Medicare is run by the government and it was doing a pretty good job, too, until Bush let the pharmaceutical companies write that prescription drug bill.
So your premise is wrong. While "certain things" might be best left to the individual, apparently health insurance is not one of them, or our system wouldn't be crashing down around our ears and medical debts now be the leading cause of individual bankruptcy. Right?
Rich Canadians come here because our country has the most advanced medical technology and the best surgeons. Everyone knows that. However, because our system is screwed up, only the very wealthy have access to the best care. So saying Canadians come here doesn't prove anything about their system as compared to ours. Meanwhile, our citizens are going to Canada to get reasonably priced prescription medications.
While you ask liberals to research how others have done with similar problems, I wonder if you would be willing to see "Sicko" and check out some of the issues that are brought up there.

I think most of them care, but as you say they don't think it through or look into how it worked in the past or somewhere else. Sometimes they seem to think that they can make something work well even though it hasn't anywhere else in the world where its been tried. Socialized medicine is a good example. No one has been able to show me a place where it has been tried for a long period of time and met with overwhelming success. No one can show me where the government has stepped into any private industry, taken control, and improved the situation. The government simply is not designed to run what should be private industry more successfully than private industry can run it. That's not to say our present system doesn't need some reforms and adjustments, but turning it over to the government would make it even worse.

I agree with you to an extent, but the real problem is spending way too much on a "global" military, airports and bridges that aren't needed...if the waste was reduced and we could be a country that didn't need a massive military (as long as we have a government with policies that demand global intervention we will need a massive military)...so the real problem is policy...big military or domestic spending...for me, I'll go with helping the old lady down the street. I'm 51, served in the army and worked my entire life in construction.
I think what is needed is tiers of medical care...why should every hospital have EVERY state-of-the art piece of equipment...the government needs to step in and regulate HMO's

The biggest "liberals" I like to study and be inspired by, are the Founding Fathers.
Their extremely "liberal" and extremely "radical" ideas ended up creating the most wonderful republic that has ever existed on this planet!
Of course Liberals care about the country!
They created it in the first place!
Let's not lose it in a flurry of petty and pointless name-calling!
What kind of a republic would we have ended up being without the advanced vision and highly evolved political concepts and institutions advocated by Alexander Hamilton?!
We'd be a republic more like that of Mexico than the one we have become!

Sadly no , they only care about what they want and how to get it by what ever means necessary .Back when the Democratic party was the party in opposition , a lot of good legislation came out of Washington , but no more it's all hatred and vitriol ever since the Carter administration and further the Clinton administration it's been all down hill for the Democrats , both in stature and decency.

You have been listening to talk radio too much. Government does many things well. Administrative costs for Medicare for example are somewhere around 2 1/2%. Compare that to about 40% for health insurance companies. I've been in manufacturing industries all my life and they are extremely wasteful (CEO's making millions, salesmen wining & dining clients). And for-profit health care is always trying to cut services for their clients in order to make more profit. Some things are better left to government.

Yes, I do believe they care for America and love this country. However, I think their beliefs as to what is best for America are misguided and not really as beneficial as they hope.
I also find them strangely silent when I question their understanding of the Constitutionality of programs such as welfare or medical insurance.
I also find them to have failed to review adequately the effects that previous liberal policies have had. Making policies based on good intentions, but which have adverse and deleterious effects upon the intended beneficiaries of such policies, is not acceptable.
