They have no plan for the consequences of such action nor have they even really tried to get us to actually leave.

If they want us to leave why don't they come up with a detailed plan of how it will happen and how they will deal with the consequences. I personally believe they haven't really thought about it too deeply and just use such generic statements to attack Bush.

Real plan. The US should leave Iraq. Neo-cons should pack their bags, their .357 and bring peace, security, and mom's apple pie to Iraq.

How do you fix a car that is falling apart. You get rid of it. Bush would keep changing the spark plugs and call it progress. He would fire every mechanic that suggested that the best course of action is to get rid of it. He would go through fifty mechanics until he found the one that said change the spark plugs. Then he would say "I listen to the mechanics".

Ben Franklin once said that "Well done is much better than well said."

The democrats are merely echoing their constituents' gripes - they will not take on the responsibility of actually doing anything such as defunding the war or initiating a binding resolution for immediate withdrawal or a set time table for withdrawal because they don't want to be held accountable for the consequences. By doing absolutely nothing, they can continue to lay all blame on Bush - that's why they have adopted their policy of defeat. Their political aspirations are more important to them than America's success in Iraq - since success in Iraq would be a resounding success for America, but a devastating defeat for the democrats who have sided with their esteemed leader - you know, the genius who publicly declared that America has lost the war - at a time when our troops are still on the front lines and in harms way.
Way to go, Harry.

Actually, they've come up with several detailed plans. So have some Republicans. But with partisan politics (and in-fighting within both parties) being what they are, nothing has gotten solid support from a majority. Bush has stated outright that he'll ignore any such plans anyway.

Certainly, saying "we should leave" is an excellent start. But you're right that we--the country--deserve representatives from both sides of the aisle to will work together long enough to create more details and settle on something.

Actually a number of democrats (Wesley Clark, John Kerry, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton to name a few) have come up with strategic plans for Iraq. But whenever Democrats (and some Republicans) talk about troop deployment for instance, the Neo-cons and Bush "croonies" chime in with the "cut-and-run" phrase trying to tie troop redeployment with "un-patriotic" behavior. Unfortunately, the Neo-cons and Bush "croonies" always give the American public the darkest side of troop draw-down (i.e. the country will fall into bloody civil war and terrorism will flourish).

Most Democratic leaders believe that Iraq cannot be "won" militarily. The military forces of Saddam Hussein were already defeated. The Iraqis need to be taught that America is not going to a leaning crutch for them. For instance, Obama believes that a number of strategies need to be implemented to bring peace to Iraq. One is troop redeployment (moving troops to other hot spots like North Korea, Iran, and Afghanistan) but being flexible about keeping troops in Iraq as needed to provide training for Iraqi military, special forces to strike at Al-Qaeda elements, reduction of Iraqi militias and ensure American troop safety in Iraq. Secondly, economic aid to Iraq has to be tied to achieveable milestones and accomplishments (i.e. if secratian violence is reduced by some level then so many US dollars will be available to the Iraqi government). Also economic aid to Iraq's basic infrastructure has to continue and be completed (etc building power plants, schools, hospitals and the like) to show the everyday Iraqi that America cares about your plight.

Mostly of what I've stated here has been developed by the Iraq Study Group. Unfortunately, the Bush Administration is very slow to change course or even consider that the course needs to be changed. Look at the recommendations from the 9/11 Report that have been done by the Bush Administration and then you will realize how slow the Bush Administration is to implementing good ideas.

If you think they haven't you aren't paying attention. Sen. Clinton has had a detailed plan for quite a long time, and a very good plan it is. So has Joe Biden, and so has Chris Dodd. But, I won't go into it, you don't really care what it is anyway, that is clear. This question's purpose is obviously only meant for flaming, so thanks for the two.

We're still waiting for a "plan" from Bush that works. He never had one, not from day one, and it shows.

The dems plans for anything and everything is the same.

First, you should know that all plans are for maximum votes. Nothing else matters to them. Now, with that said, all plans are simply this.

1. Point out that republicans are bad.
2. Point out that democrats are not republicans.
3. Hope enough people are stupid enough to consider this a plan and vote for democrats.

The plan of what to do is on my first link
"We will protect Americans at home and lead the world by telling the truth to our troops, our citizens and our allies. We believe in a strong national defense that is both tough and smart, recognizing that homeland security begins with hometown security."( second link) This is the adgenda...defense means defending ourselves HERE....not going into other countries to root out people who might hurt us.

"Just leaving" really does cut it! We're not Iraqis, so I truly don't give a s**t about the consequences. If they can't choose freedom, then I don't care what happens to the dumba$$e$.
Real liberal, huh.

And " Stay the course " does? I don't see this administration has much of one either. Win, or get out. And lets not take 10 years to do it.

Shouldn't you be asking "When will the Republicans come up with a real plan for Iraq?" They got us there...shouldn't they get us out? Or since they can't do it, now they will try to spin it around and point the finger at the Dem's.....as usual.
