have them use their imagination to help you
ask them what they like to do

read to them (or have the older ones read to entire group)

play interactive games (charades or pictionary)

narrate/tell stories and have them interject their own part of the stories

play cards or games like memory

scavenger hunts

pizza or ice cream parties

come up with a club name or a song/cheer that get's them in a good mood

have them draw, paint or make something (like puppets) out of old items that their parents were going to throw away

arts & crafts - thefrugalshopper.com

nap time!!!

get involved in a good cause - www.idealist.org

start a food/clothing drive many think of the winter and holidays but during the summer lots of people need food and clothing -Salvation Army

if you have chores that must be done like laundry some kids like to help

take them for a walk if you can safely or a nearby playground

field day - make up ribbons and awards, have a sack race or a 3-legged race or a combination of different events (risbie throwing, baseball toss, relays, obstacle course race etc)

Get learning flashcards and other learning toys and material, children need to be stimulated if you have these children daily and it ends up long term they need to grow and learn!

Like another poster mentioned, these children absolutely need a schedule if they know what to expect then they are less likely to feel overwhelmed and you will feel less overwhelmed. You are the adult they feed off of you. Six is a lot for one, but it can be done, you just gotta get organized. There is a lot of websites to help you with this too.

If I were watching that many children I would have a regimented schedule almost like a day care center.
You could have:
snack time
story time
crafts
a little bit of exercise (indoors or outside)
quiet time for the older kids/nap time for the younger ones.
I've been thinking about doing this myself. It's a good way to supplement a family's income. Good luck

Make playdoh.
Treasure hunt including a map and special "treasure"
Make decorated stepping stones from quikrete
Make homemade sidewalk chalk.
Plant some seeds (beans, sunflowers) and watch them grow.
Give them a list of things to collect at beach (shell, sand dollar, bottle cap, etc) and 1st one done gets prize.
Make popsicles.

take them to a museum, teach them things.....kids at those ages can absorb alot of info, so u might as well teach them alot while they can learn it and get smart fast. they wont even notice that its learning if u do it in interesting ways, like go to the museum, a library book reading, the park to play, botanical gardens, the zoo.

Find a man but take better care of everyone this time. Also, you could try daycares or ask friends to watch them if you have to work...

You could have them play "cemetary" and have each child lie on the floor and stay silent. The one who stays silent the longest wins a Twix.
