I have a 1992 toyota corolla that I bought in december. The a/c blows hot air as soon as the engine gets up to normal temperature. Can i buy the charge kit at walmart to make my air cold again? And which one do I buy? As a single mom, I really cannot afford taking my car to a mechanic. Please, any info is appreciated.

Did the AC work when you bought the car? If it has not worked in several months then the seals are probably all dried up and will need to be replaced anyways. Also, you probably have an R-12 system. R-12 is now illegal and was replaced by R-134a. My friend had her system modified for R-134a and fitted with all new seals, etc for $400 on her '92 Ford Explorer.
If you put R-134a in a system that had R-12 in it, it will not work, the R-12 will contaminate the R-134. You need the system cleaned and the condensor replaced.
I feel your pain, I had an 86 volvo that needed $400 worth of AC work and the car was only worth $800.

Ok First Off DO NOT Get The Recharge Cans AT Walmart They Can Be Very Dangerous. Your Car Uses Old Refriderant And Needs To Be Retrofitted To The New Type Of Refridgerant. It's Oly ABout 100 Bucks To Change It Over To The New Stuff And That Includes Charging The A/C With The New Refriderant.

First off, you can buy the refrigerant for your car. It takes the old R-12 freon and what is available to the public is the new R-134A refrigerant.
You must "Retro-fit" the system and to do it the right way is more then just changing the fittings and charging it up with R-134A.
You need to fix what ever leaks you have and then change the drier and flush out the system to remove as much old oil as possible. Then add new "Ester oil". Then you can vacuum the system for 30 minutes. After that, it is OK to charge the system with R-134A.
The cheep way will just give you problems and may even cost more money to fix if you do not get it right.
Quality is like buying oats. If you want good oats, you pay good money. If you want oats that have already gone through the horse, well they are cheaper.

You can waste you money getting the recharge kit, go ahead. But it will not last long. As it`s a 15 year old car, you will need a new seal in the compressor to keep the freon in the system.

I have no idea but if money is a big issue, I would just buy a cheap $8 car fan from Wal-Mart and use that.
