i dont have any kids. it is a toss up though. i mean kids should be able to be kids not showed off as a prize. on the other hand you should be proud of your kids and want to build them up and feel good about themselves. however, doing this is taking a chance on them having emotional issues down the road. it is a hard topic to choose sides on. good luck.

I will try to answer your question instead of being judgemental and ignorant....I dont have kids.Im 14 and have been doing pageants for several years. I started when I was a baby so of course I had no say in that...as I got older I loved competing and my mom said that I could keep doing it as long as it was positive for me. I won a lot and I have lots of little tiaras and banners..when I was 4 I threw a tantrum onstage because I did not win..My mom was serious and I did not get to do another pageant until I was 12!! These people that say the moms are living through their kids dont know what they are talking about. My mom has had to make a lot of sacrifices for me to do pageants. It is an expensive hobby but she knows how much I love them. When I competed again at 12 I didnt win but I watched the dvd over and over...I watched what the girls that had won did..how they walked, smiled etc. Next thing you know I started winning. Im 14 now and have won 14 of my last 18 pageants. I have won 3 national titles and numerous state titles. I have won cash (thousands), scholarships, expensive crowns, trips and made lasting friendships. Pageants also got me a modeling contract. I compete mainly because I am competitive and love it...I love winning new crowns and money.....my mom and I have fun at my pageants and its something we do together. :)
Added for Smiley~they are also judged on poise, personality, academic achievement, talent, interview and community involvement.

I don't want to offend anyone, but I find them disturbing. Their mothers or parents should not be dressing them up in innappropriate clothing for their age or putting so much make-up on them. It's these things that drive the pedophiles and sickos out there. I think that kids should be playing with their friends, learning, and just having fun during their childhood instead of growing up so fast and wasting their time on something so dumb. I would't be competing for money or prizes just because of my looks. But if their mothers have nothing better to do for their daughters and want to make themselves look foolish, that's their problem. I hope that answers your question! Beauty pageants may mean a lot to some people, but to me they're as valuable as something you may find in the trash!

I'm so sorry if I offend.. but I can't stand them... I think it's parents using their kids to get the glory. It's even worse when the Mum was in pageants when she was younger, because she's obviously getting the kid to live the dream she failed at!!

I feel sorry for those little girls that have thos unfulfilled mothers. They weren't good enough to be a pageant queen, so they push their children to be one. It's a no win situation for the girls. They are disappointed when they loose, and they have disappointed their loony mother.

I'll never involve my kids in such a thing.
If they were to exploits a person's beauty, at least let them be old enough to decide for themself when they knows what they're really into.

beauty is not everything
there is nothing wrong with beauty pageants, but they should understand from the beginning that beauty comes within!

i am young so i don't have any kids but i think they are over rated. they pull and stuff these little kids and for what. so they can wear a crown get flowers and some prize money. so all the other kids who didn't win could fell like they stuffed and pulled themselves for no reason. i don't get it. i hope this helped.
