I drive a 1998 Ford Eplorex Lt. Edt. with 210.000 miles on it.
Today, as I was driving on a full tank the car stopped at a light. The engine completely shut itself off, and I wasn't able to start it up.

The car is in good shape, but I haven't had an oil change in 10.000 miles.

I was able to get it to start up by using jumper cables, but as I pressed on the gas the engine started trembling violently and short after the car would just die. We had the hood open and you could see the whole engine shaking.

Any idea what's wrong with it? Coolant and oil levels were good, and the car was not over heating at all. Also, I was good on gas.

Could this be a result of not having an oil change, and if so, what would be the direct consequence? Ideas?

If the check engine light is on use a code scanner and it will help diagnose your problem. If you have an Autozone in your area they will loan you one.

It sounds like a spark problem. Start with spark plugs and wires. If those don't help you may need a coil pack or an ignition module. If the oil level is good then I would say it is not oil related.
Not changing the oil will just cause more wear on the parts and you will get blue smoke and start using oil. Lack of oil is what kills more engines than just not changing it.
