Social work is one of the most diverse professions out there (as you can even see from some of the responses here). Social workers work in all segments of society and engage in work at multiple levels (often simultaneously). It is in this area that social workers are most privileged in the helping professions. I think it is a hard profession having to see families torn apart, making decisions that could hurt the family or the children in the family, and not getting your emotions involved so that you don't run yourself ragged, it is something that takes a special person to do, just like teaching, not everyone has the qualities it takes to be a good social worker
