With my first I didn't start cereal until 6 months, as doctors now recommend at least 6 months. I now have a second child and I am not going to start cereal until 9 months at least.
As far as Gerber? Never. I made my own baby food. Cheaper, just as easy, and better for them. I'd just mash up fruit with a fork, or mash the same steamed veggie the rest of my family was having for dinner. I don't intend to start solids until 9 months. Solids before 12 months is mostly for fun anyway.

My son is a big eater. So the bottle alone would not keep him full long enough (even after we upped his formula intake). At my last ped. visit I consulted her about his eating habits. He is a big baby and eats alot for his age. So the doc recommended rice cereal mixed with formula once at breakfast and once right before bedtime. He is 3 months old. She did say however that this is early to start an infant on cereal but he was eating 7oz of formula every 2 1/2 hours. I also feed him with a spoon and not a bottle.

Start on cereal 4-6 months (move to veggies after that, then fruit - they will get spoiled by the sugar if you go with fruit first). My son refused anything until after 5 months. He/she will probably accept or refuse sometime in that 4-6 month period. They will also seem like they are not satistfied with 5-6 onces of formula/ breastmilk and need something more. Also, if they are drinking 32 or more onces of milk everyday, they may be ready to try "solid" foods.

I started my son on Gerber cereal at 4 months. Most of what I read said that babies can nurse exclusively for the first six months, but his dr pressured me into starting him on solids.
What I was told is to start at first with only one food. Then gradually add in others (starting with veggies) to be sure he doesn't have any allergies. Peanut's first cereal was the rice, but it consitpated the heck out of him, so his second food was prunes :)

between 4-6 month, it really has to do with if your child is acting like they need more food. Is your baby maxing out the recommend amount of formula, and still hungry? If so then you may start w/ cereal for a couple of days, one at a time for days. then try the fruits one at a time too and then veggies. this separates them to tell if your bay will have an allergic reaction to any one of them.

You should be able to start both right now. I started my son on the rice cereal when he was 3 months old, though. Dr's say that it's ok to start baby food between 4-6 months, as long as the baby is not overweight.

YOu can start him right now, i started my son at 21/2 months, just make sure the cereal is not to thick, i only gave my son the gerber fruits not the foods, i dont see how babies can eat that stuff.
Even though the cereal might change his bowel movement, it has to come out on way or another.

WHEN YOUR DOCTOR TELLS YOU TOO! Not every baby is ready at the same time. My daughter was 3 1/2 months and my son was 5 months.
It is a myth that eating solids will help a child sleep so please ask you babies doctor before you do anything and putting cereal in formula is a chocking hazard so please don't do it.
