The modern record is 35, which the Red Sox scored in a doubleheader against the A's back in 1939.

Pre-1900, the Boston Beaneaters once scored 43 in a doubleheader.

The record in the modern era is indeed 35 by the Boston Red Sox. If you look today the Minnesota Twins scored 20 runs in their first game. Lead in the second game 12-0 so combined that is 32. Another crazy inning and they could tie or pass Boston!

Did you know that on September 4, 1902, Boston played Pittsburgh in a doubleheader and they combined to score the fewest runs by both teams during a doubleheader with one?
