Technically she was harassing her ex's current girlfriend which is a crime. Remember harassment is how it is defined by the person being harassed not the harasser. So just calling some one who you know wants nothing to do with you is kind of harassing. Would you want one of your spurned ex's calling your current flame? You didn't put down what the conversations were about but my guess is they she probably said some nasty things about the current girlfriend or her ex. Another question is when did the the new girlfriend ask her to stop calling? I find it hard to believe that she wasn't asked to stop after the first call. Your friend is probably having trouble letting go of what happened with her ex and took it out on the new girlfriend. She should probably start going to counseling to deal with her frustrations. Her best defense is to be apologetic about her actions, perhaps she didn't realize she was upsetting to the other party. She needs to promise to leave the other person alone and be in the process of getting help so she will not continue the harassing behavior.

Maybe a note from her shrink explaining she is working on her mental health issues. They will probably just issue a restraining order so if the stalker doesn't go near or call again she won't go to jail. She may have to pay court cost if found guilty.
If she doesn't have a shrink yet she should find one she has a screw loose to do something like that.

If she only called her four times and didn't call again after being asked not to, she just has to show that she didn't call anymore. The easiest way to prove that is phone records, but unless one of them was using a cell phone it can take some time to get them if the telephone company can even pull them up at all.
