I've had 3 c-sections. The pain from the actual surgery goes away after 2-4 weeks but the soreness can last for much longer. It really depends on the person, some people just heal faster than others. Most people make the mistake of getting back to regular activity too soon after their c-section. They start feeling better after a couple of weeks and assume that they are on the fast track to recovery. Your body needs a good 8-10 weeks to fully recover. Just think, the doctors are cutting through many layers of skin, fat, and muscle to get to that baby, that's a lot to heal!
As far as the numbness, it been 4 years since my last section and I still have it. It has gotten better over the years but has not gone away altogether. The doctor said that it might never go away. He said that since they are cutting into the skin, nerve endings get severed and never heal so that's why the numbness doesn't go away.
Last, getting pregnant. Obviously, since I had 3 sections, I was able to get pregnant with no problem. The biggest problem women have with c-sections is the formation of scar tissue as they heal. All women are different, some scar more than others. It's the scar tissue that can cause problems in subsequent pregnancies. Just talk it over with your doctor.

I have had 2 C-sections. The recovery on the 1st one was worse than the 2nd. Recovery time is different for everyone, but after the first week, you should feel a little better every day. I had 8 weeks maternity leave and I would say that I started feeling "normal" again at about 6 weeks. Take it slow and let your body heal.

As far as the numbness, I was numb for close to a year after the first one. Think about it ... you just had all your nerves severed ... it's going to take some time for that to repair itself. And you will probably never have the same amount of sensation that you had before. Consider it a badge of motherhood. My husband used to poke me below my scar and say "can you feel this?" and laugh at my lack of sensation. I can feel most everything now, except on the scar itself. And, like I said, I did not have the same problems with numbness with the 2nd ... maybe I was just used to not feeling much by then ;-)

I had no problems getting prego again or carrying to full term. I think the 2nd C-section was easier because I knew what to expect. I was up and about in 1/2 the time.

My hospital would not let me have a natural birth for the 2nd pregnancy. Something to do with insurance for the hospital. There was a hospital in the area that would let me have a natural birth, but it was not covered by my insurance so I went with the 2nd C-section (and the 2 extra weeks of paid maternity leave that the state of CA gave me for the surgery!)

I guess what I want to say is, hang in there. It will get better and easier. You and your doc will know if you have a problem. Enjoy this time -- it will be over before you know it!

well I have had 3 c-sections in 5 years . I was in pain for a couple weeks, but as long as you take Ibuprofen on time you should feel fine just don't overdue it and under no circumstances jump out of bed suddenly ( I did this a week after I had my first one ) VERY painful!! I had 1 emergency C-section and the other 2 were planned I have also had natural childbirth and I prefer c-section it is harder to recover from but you don't have to go through hours of hard labor just a half an hour of numbness or so and then you have your baby as long as you have pain killers you should be fine It is not as scary as it seems. and I had no problems getting pregnant again Good luck and congrats!

The worst part of the c-section was my first attempt to get out of bed. It felt like every organ in my body shifted when I moved....which I suppose it probably did. I had enough pain to take the percoset for maybe two days. Then I just took tylenol. It stung, but not enough to make me go back to the prescription drugs. I was up and about doing most of what I usually did (but more slowly) after about 4-5 days.
Numbness lasts a little longer. It's been ten months for me and still occasionally gets a little numb. The doctor said it's normal, sometimes for up to two years.
Can't tell you about problems with getting pregnant again, though. I haven't tried!

I wasnt really in pain after words the only part was hard for me was the frist time i tried to get up out of the bed... n that was just 4 hours after i had it done. theres times that i feel a small pain but nothing to really bother me majorly or anything. as for the numb part..i was only numb until like the next day. the best thing to do is take it really easy for about a week, have someone to help you with the baby, so you can rest and thats the key not to get a infection. and you should be just fine.

I was in alot of pain for about a week, within 3 weeks I was feeling good. I'm still numb but just along the incision, its been 18 years since my last one. I had no problems with getting pregnant again. you can still have a regular birth the next time.

I was not in that much pain afterwards, but I was numb for a while. So far, I have not had any problems with this pregnancy after my c-section except the horrible morning sickness I had at the begining.

Everyone is different, but basicly a couple of weeks or so. As far as being numb I don't think that ever goes away. And as for getting pregnant, no problem.
